So, how good is this show? The impression I'm getting is that "It's a classic, but awful" in the vein of Elfen Lied.

Is that true?

>>I KNEW someone was going to say that.

I like it too, in fact it's one of my favorites, but that doesn't mean it's GOOD. The fact if you remove all the stupid evil actions, the impulsiveness, and the lack of basic communication that there would be no plot is a bad sign.

...Which sounds like lot of anime, come to think of it... And Game of Thrones.

Anyway, surely you can see how no one acting like a person in a serious melodrama is a pretty big flaw.

Read the Manga instead. The show only goes up to a certain point.
Also Elfen lied was fucking trash.

I was going on a nostalgic binge and foound a respectable amount of old anime hidden right in plain site.

Does anyone have a particular recommendations? In doing so, try to make a pitch of why it's worth watching.

Serial experments Lain is actually one of my favorite anime. Didn't know it was on youtube though, I'll give it a rewatch.

The rest I'll have to translate.

Also, I'm currently watching this:

https://www.nsfwyoutube.com/watch?v=UxME8pxrKyQ

If I had to pitch it, and that's a bit of a challenge, it would be that it's a very unorthodox show that was so grotesque, it was actually banned in Japan.

Not for the faint of heart.

before you read this, can we all agree toonami was what made anime mainstream in america? ok?
So like the subject says there is a clear age gap in the anime/manga community. It's split
into two of the most soy filled baby generations y and z. For people around my age(late 90sfetuses)
We grew up in the tail end of toonami. Basically the era of Naruto and One Piece, this explains
why Naruto and One Piece is more consumed by zoomers while the previous gen grew up with dbz
and pokemon and maybe sailor moon. Folks around my age mainly grew up with NAruto on CN
one piece had a pretty shitty first impression and it didn't last that long on CN anyways
so this is why Naruto is more liked with zoomers. Anyways there's this new gen of anime fags
that don't know nothing about Naruto and one piece. There are literally fetuses lurking the internet
who where babies when attack on titan came out. I propose we should name this generation of /a/ fags gen 3

I could get into AoT easier than into Naruto or One Piece. I don't care too much about any of them though. Grew up with, quite like you say, Pokemon, Sailor Moon, Digimon, Escaflowne, Ranma, Dragon Ball and later DBZ and NGE.
Out of those really mainstream, peak-shounen series I like still like DBZ the most. It was the coolest thing ever when everyone was young because it was the most brutal thing your parents would possibly let you watch because as it's also funny and fairytale like. It's ultimately something I will never grow tired of but I couldn't have any less desire to explore similar stuff or watch every episode of DBS.

You mean the same 'finebros' who tried to copyright the usage of the word 'react' as if they invented the format?
Yeah nah - I have personally boycotted them, and I will not lift that anytime soon.

Because Dragon Ball Super was a lazy ass sequel made to pad Toei's pockets.

Dragon Ball GT had more effort put in its storyline compared to Dragon Ball Super

If anything, Japan came up with the React Format first.

Ever watch any Japanese Variety TV shows uploaded on YouTube, especially the Japanese comedy prank variety shows?

They have a bubble appear at the top of the episode, showing the hosts and guests react to the pranks.

Feels weird for a Kumeta manga to be adapted by a different studio like Ajia-do Animation Works instead of Shaft.

I guess Shaft is too busy, animating Monogatari, instead of another SZS season

tell you what, it is time to bring in a spicy opinion. last weekend i finished madoka magica and rebellion, for the first time in my life. going into it the only things i knew were some random pictures and the fact that it was SUPER popular. well and at the end.. it was just that. i finished it, thought "yeah it was pretty good" and thats it. i wonder why it exploded so much in popularity. honestly rozen maiden is a better franchise imho

Gacha storylines are hampered by the fact they are gacha games, first and foremost.

They should have been console games from the very start.

I would argue that sometimes manga are not meant to be animated and that successfully animating slice of life manga is extraordinarily harder than animating shonen battle manga and an unskilled anime director often fails to produce a hit out of a slice of life story due to failing the convey the appeal of the source material.

>> No.21451   [Delete]   [Edit]

>>21449
yeah i've already seen people mentioning that point. that the anime somehow differs from the manga. well i wouldn't notice it so that's no problem for me. what i like about that anime however is the atmosphere and general feel. that they did really good so far.

Recommend recently finished or currently ongoing anime here so we know what to look for during current seasons, and in general to give us something to watch.
