Lawd, no one's posted in here in two years.

Well, thought I'd put this one up anyway... I've started building a figurine of my own, to see if I can do. So far it's looking kinda alright, anyway. It's supposed to be Konata sitting and playing a handheld game. I'm not really sure if it's best to build it in one piece, or how to do it... Well, we'll see.

>> No.908   [Delete]   [Edit]

Oh, I saw wrong.. Well, it's not too active, anyway.

>> No.909   [Delete]   [Edit]

Dude, that is legit. Nice work!

What are you using to sculpt? I thought most fig sculptors used Greenstuff, aka Kneadatite epoxy putty.

>> No.910   [Delete]   [Edit]

Thanks! This is Super Sculpey. It needs oven baking, so I'm still a bit nervous about how this will turn out. The wire skeleton is fastened with greenstuff(the GW variety) though, so I hope it will be alright... It will likely melt, but I hope it doesn't ruin the clay. There's not that much of it, anyway.
I'm working on the clothes now, will post new picture when the shirt is done.

Oh man, you're paying GW prices for Greenstuff? Ouch...

Still, I think you should be ok with it in the oven. Looking forward to seeing more of this!

I haven't found any other epoxy putty than GW's around here... at least it lasts for a long time.
Anyway, I've sculpted the clothes now. Not too sure about all of the creases, but it looks kinda alright, anyway.

Head sculpted and fastened. Whoa, looking kinda scary there, kona-chan! But I think/hope it'll be better with the hair.

>> No.915   [Delete]   [Edit]

Interesting...~

The only thing that seems kinda off right now is the neck, or maybe it's just me?

>> No.916   [Delete]   [Edit]

Might be... I'll tweak things a little before putting on the hair.

Putting on the hair. I'd thought of supporting the bangs with steel wire at first, but it turned out more complicated than practical, so I just built it freehand. I think the front looks alright, at least, if not very anime-like.

The back is... well, not totally retarded, I hope. The hair got a bit dirty, but it shouldn't be visible on the finished surface.

The biggest problem now is that she's becoming too top heavy, so the clay in the legs cracks if she sits up for a longer time... I hope this turns out alright in the baking, but she likely has some internal injuries now. For my next model, I should fasten it in a base plate from the start.

I've started baking it now, I have no idea how that will turn out. Let's hope for the best.

Baked and ready! I checked for some tips at sculpting forums, and the first I saw was that you should ignore the package's instruction for 15 minutes per 6 mm, at 130 degrees(275F). So I followed that pro sculptor's tips, and baked it for 3 hours at 105(225F), and then 3 hours more at 75(170F). Now it's rock hard all the way through!
I burnt the hands and feet a little, because I thought he meant Celsius at first... but I wrapped them with wet tissue and tinfoil, and there doesn't seem to be any problem in the end.

After this, I've filed, trimmed and sanded it a little to remove fingerprints and small bruises, and I'm going to paint it as soon as I've bought new spray paint.

Konata is base painted, and I've already started on the next one: Parsee Mizuhashi of Touhou.
This time with a more proper rig and base plate!

Chest done, lower body tweaked and smoothed a bit. I wonder if it better to wait with the arms until after I've built the clothes on the upper body? Should have made the shoulder wire parts a bit wider. That tinfoil head looks really stupid now...
Proportions seems to work, anyway.

Now, young lady, this is a family site, at least put on some underwear! And so was it. I'm very happy about how the frills came out, I thought it'd be a lot harder than it was.
Also a head! It looks a little uneven, but it should be better with hair. And ears!
I will go with building the clothes on at least the upper body before sculpting the arms, that should be a lot easier. And the wires are good to hold for support.
I baked her just a little now, so I won't mess up the frills or face, and don't have to worry about fingerprints everywhere.

>> No.928   [Delete]   [Edit]

These are amazing.. you've inspired me to try sculpting more~

Is Super Sculpey much different from Original? My Original Sculpey gets kind of squishy if I mess with it for too long..

>> No.929   [Delete]   [Edit]

Thanks. No idea, I haven't tried Original. This doesn't seem to soften up more than a little when you knead it(it's always pretty soft, though), and it hardens a little back to the original state when left alone for a while. Very easy to work with.

We have hair! And arms! Maybe it's not really... the way Parsee's hair usually look. I still don't really know how to do it, so I just wing it. It's like some kind of 80's hairdo, but I'm still pretty satisfied. Not like this is much of a canon Parsee anyway.

Only the socks and shoes left now!

God, my camera sucks.

Thank you.
It's finished! I really learned a lot from this, so I hope my next model will be even better. I need to find some good way to smooth it, the baked clay is too hard to sand.
Somehow most of the citadel colors I used were the perfect hue as they were. They must like Parsee too.
