It's bad idea. In wikipedia it is said:

>Church Slavonic Language never was colloquial (only a few educated people could converse in it).
>Nowadays it is used only in churches, for the divine service.

(Translation from Russian).
I think that no clerics read manga or even know what it is.

I don't really expect anyone to read that.
Anyway, I believe, other than the clergy, some laymen study Church Slavonic too. Although, I suspect, most of them have a terminal stage of orthodoxy of cerebrum.
What I always found peculiar about church service in Church Slavonic or Latin or other dead languages is that it seems that people just stand there having no idea, what the priest is going on about.

Quenya or Sindarin could be more useful, lol.

We Russians know that Church Slavonic is obsolete. But the pronounceation and "Ъ" in the end of words ending with consonant is funny thing.
Sorry for my bad English.

Does anyone have Tale 54 raws(Japanese)??

>> No.3276   [Delete]   [Edit]

I usually wait one week since some Japanese "complained" that a lot of other Japanese also get scans from Desuchan and it might hurt the sales and the subsequent loss of people who fill out the questionnaire in YJ in RMs favor, which would highten the possibility of a cancellation.
So it might be best to wait for a few days. Christmas Eve might be a good date ^^

>> No.3277   [Delete]   [Edit]

thx, kind anon!

>> No.3278   [Delete]   [Edit]

Of course Rozen Maiden won't get cancelled. Its sales are good and now they've announced an anime. People are so sensitive sometimes.

>> No.3279   [Delete]   [Edit]

It still remains a risk, I'd rather wait for a bit than risk it being cancelled.

And of course many thanks to the kind anon who buys Young Jump and takes the time to upload the scans, it's always very much appreciated :)

Did Desu Cake dropped translation? Is it necessary to find new translator?

>> No.3203   [Delete]   [Edit]
>Did Desu Cake dropped translation?

I don't think so, she's just taking her time.

>Is it necessary to find new translator?

Why not? The more the better. There's just one problem: where are you going to find one? Unless you are willing to become a translator. Learning Japanese isn't that hard actually, so go ahead and try.

>> No.3204   [Delete]   [Edit]

as much as I love Desu Cake's work, the gaps between her releases have gotten longer and longer during this year

as for finding a new translator, the only one I know of that does good quality work, and does it quickly, is SAHA, and he is not free

actually Japanese IS a difficult language to learn beyond the very first bit, because you have to learn more than just the words and grammar rules, to fully understand Japanese (so that you could do decent translations) you have to learn all the rules of "context" and "formal mode or informal mode" that apply to Japanese such as the different ways of saying the same thing that are used depending on if the speaker is female or male, and depending on the social status of the speaker in relation to the person being spoken to and whether they are friends or not

>as for finding a new translator, the only one I know of that does good quality work, and does it quickly, is SAHA, and he is not free

And this is why I say that the only way to get a new translator is to become one.

>actually Japanese IS a difficult

I may be downplaying the difficulty of Japanese, but this is only due to the fact that many people seem to hold the opinion that people capable of translating manga are some kind of wizards wielding the power inaccessible for mere mortals, while in fact there is lots of people who self-learned Japanese to a decent level, and the techniques to learn Japanese to be able to understand manga in about a year are known and well tested by thousands of people.
As for the point you make, every language has it's peculiarities and becoming a decent translator takes time for any language. But what I want to stress is that I believe that the only way to figuring out these nuances is practice. I think that theoretical knowledge is of even more limited use here than when learning the main grammatical rules. Therefore, if there is no way around practice anyway, then the point you make is in fact an argument in favor of trying.

Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>> No.3212   [Delete]   [Edit]

Yeah, as you could probably tell, my motivation for translating is pretty low lately. it tends to arrive in short bursts, so I have to do what I can then, otherwise I just get frustrated.
I'd echo the fact that Japanese isn't all that difficult to learn, at least for translating purposes. With manga in particular, it tends to be pretty easy to figure out what's being said from the context and pictures.
I mean, I still can't read Japanese well at all. I know about 25-30 kanji out of over 2000. When I started, I didn't know any kanji, or even kana. I had to look up everything.
So yeah, if you really want to, there's not a lot stopping you from learning enough to get by.

>> No.3218   [Delete]   [Edit]

>When I started, I didn't know any kanji, or even kana. I had to look up everything.

Wow, mad respect. Until its cancellation, I played Busou Shinki Battle Rondo, a Japanese online game, and since I wanted to know what my little robots were telling me, I drew the kanji on the Windows IME Pad and copied them into Google Translate. After some time, I learned how to make the strokes and all, but Jesus, was it pedestrian!
So ... wow. Thank you even more. I thought you'd be, dunno, a more or less fluent student that just doesn't have much time on her hands.

I cannot put into words how happy I am to hear this!!! If this goes ahead (and it's done well) it'll give the series a well deserved boost!

Additionally, if this has been reported I'm hoping a manga re-license in English is on the way at some point too!

I think Italy is the only other country which is currently releasing the second series.

This is still good news nonetheless! An English release is bound to be on the cards if other countries are picking up the manga.

Now, if it only came to Brazil, my dreams would be fulfilled.

>> No.3196   [Delete]   [Edit]

dont hold your breath

we probably wont ever see it again in America for the same reason most other manga never makes it here, or gets cancelled after a few vols come out (without allowing the series to complete)

the licensing companies dont give a shit about anything other than their profit margin, so any manga that does not sell enough copies fast enough gets dropped, whether the series is done or not
That and the fact that manga licensing companies seem to be going under constantly, I kind of doubt an english language edition of Rozen Maiden will ever see the light of day in American ever again

All good points, however with the revival of the anime on the way I'm daring to hope just a little on this one!

>> No.3200   [Delete]   [Edit]

It's a pretty well-known title, I'm sure some manga publisher will pick it up and give it a better treatment. With the new anime coming up (and the special edition of the first manga series released), it's much more likely.

>> No.3123   [Delete]   [Edit]

What's your problem with boys love?
Anyway, a publisher who noticed Onani Master Kurosawa can not be shit.

>> No.3124   [Delete]   [Edit]

Nothing, just that there are many other "fields" they could specialize in, other than "yaoi".

>> No.3125   [Delete]   [Edit]

nothing is wrong with it if that is your thing

Rozen Maiden is NOT yaoi

so a publisher that specializes in gay manga should stay with gay manga, and leave the "normal" manga for other companies to publish

I can hazard a guess and suspect that a gay manga publisher must not be making much money at it if they are trying to get permission to start publishing straight manga

Last edited 12/09/30(Sun)10:38.

>> No.3128   [Delete]   [Edit]

Kotori is pretty young publisher so they obviously can't make much money. It's not particulary connected with them doing yaoi, since there are many fujioshi in Poland and they'd have no problem with selling this stuff. Anyway, they just shouldn't release Rozen Maiden in Poland, and they won't, because no one would be stupid enough to give them the license.
