what is actually happening in those "experiments" is that some of the hydrogen that gets formed due to electrolysis gets "stored" in the palladium.

"The metal has the uncommon ability to absorb up to 900 times its own volume of hydrogen at room temperatures. It is thought that this possibly forms palladium hydride (PdH2) but it is not yet clear if this is a true chemical compound.[5] When palladium has absorbed large amounts of hydrogen, it will expand slightly in size." (stolen from wikipedia. it's well documented though)

now, if you have any knowledge of chemistry you know how extremely reactive hydrogen is. the excess O2 in the water will at some point react with it (fish breath youknow).

this accounts for why these "researchers" get such erratic results. sometimes the palladium they use is saturated, sometimes it is not.

what these people should do is get some new palladium, be sure it doesn't contain a buttload of hydrogen already and carry out the experiment again. this time also account for all the energy they put in before excess heat is seemingly determined and not just the input and the output at the time of this new reaction.
