Hello there desuchan. I have a question for you all.

I've been looking around on sites left and right to find a new MP3 player to purchase. I'm really skeptical when it comes to review sites and whatnot so I'd like to ask you all your opinions.
Would you all mind sharing your thoughts on good MP3s? It doesn't need 500 other gadgets attached or anything, just a basic music player with a good interface.
PS - I'm not looking for iPods... I've had them before and I'd like to try out something different.
PPS - I wasn't sure to put for my picture so...yea.

Personally, Sony Walkman has worked great for me. It's the only thing I have tried other then my disappointment with Ipod but it's worth trying out. [Pic is what I have. It's 3 years old. What's newer could be better or worse.]

i don't buy mp3 players any more unless they take AAA/AA. so if it dies at work all it takes is a few seconds to get it playing again. this Ultra Hydra has been a little tank for years though i had to do a few modifications and also solder on it a few times it plays well and is easy to use.
after years of heavy abuse i accidentally shut mine in my car door and broke its screen. still plays good though.

don't click on pick bad camera is bad

Honostly I gotta tell ya, my ipod is probably the best music player ive ever had. Its an older one, but was still 500 bucks when my dad bought it, but its not one of these new ipod touch pieces of junk that focus more on 'OOOH IPOD APPS AND GAMES' and is actually made to play music. With some file converting I have also put a lot of movies on it, which play with amazing quality for that little screen.
Dont get stuff from rca though, that shit will break on you a couple days after the day you can bring it back to walmart, then your going to have to ship it to rca for them to send it back with a software update instead of fixing the problem, then send it back again or wait 6 months until the factory warranty is gone, and the walmart warranty kicks in.
So yeah, dont get an rca.

Sansa Fuze. Plays MP3s WMAs and like a few more i think. Also supports videos and pictures. Accepts the new giant like 32 or 64(?) Gb mini-SD card, too.

All for like $40 USD

Sansa Clip+ would also be worth checking. AFAIK it has more neutral sound than Fuze and NO. FUCKING. CLICKWHEEL. Just buttons.
Also watch out for refurbs, I have one (didn't knew about them back in the day) and the clickwheel broke. No people I know with new ones had this problem.
Also, they have Rockbox (scrobbling FTW!) - an alternative firmware.

Oh boy...
Thank you all for the replies. I've been looking at each of them and other ones I come across. I'm very indecisive though and it takes me a while to make a solid decision.
Ended up upgrading my phone to a HTC Incredible so that'll hold me off 'till I figure out what the hell type of MP3 player I wanna get. I'll keep looking around and see what I can find.

Sansas in general are cheap. The Fuze+ doesn't look so bad, it uses a capacitive touch control instead of a click wheel. Why is it that no company other than Apple can actually put a decent click wheel on a mp3 player. Still though, old school video-less + touch-less iPods are still the best music-only players out there. If you can find one that someone's willing to part with. I'm particularly fond of the 2G nano, and you can have mine when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers.

I say get one with video, but keep away from that touchpad shit, at that point, the music is more of a bonus function.
Once you have one with video, get yourself videora ipod converter and you can start putting movies and anime on your ipod. It's amazingly high quality video for such a tiny screen, and I have watched more movies because of this than i would have otherwise
