I've read that an overclocked GTX 275 is pretty close to a 285, performance-wise. Not sure how it compares to a 280, but they should be close.

cool, now how about the ram issue between the 278 and 285? will i make a difference having 1 gb as opposed to having 758 or whatever? I went to the nvidia site and compared the 2 cards and they are almost identical except for the ram size and maybe clock settings

Unless you have a really high resolution display (1920x1200 or higher), you won't see a difference because of the memory.

Edit: Between the 275 and 285, there is a performance difference at all resolutions, probably because the 275 has a 448-bit memory bus, whereas the 285 has a 512-bit bus.

Also, i was thinking at first to buy another xfx 8800gts and sli them but most people expect like over 150 USD for them and for that price i can buy a GTX 260 or ati equivalent
