I can't wait to have more Kei and Sawaki.

>> No.59509   [Delete]   [Edit]

Looking back, I can't believe I downloaded and watch that whole anime just for that ONE scene with Gothic Lolita Kei. Not that it was a bad show, I just rarely watch subbed anime. That's how desperate I was.

Not everyone on the nihonphilic side of the internet is a weaboo.

>> No.59529   [Delete]   [Edit]

Also, apparently someone confirmed the "Kei slaps Sawaki" was actually Kei's twin sister trolling them (or rather, feeling very confused at finding out the childhood friend of her brother had such feelings for her brother).

Also, Kei is my waifbando

>> No.59536   [Delete]   [Edit]

that blond guy is starting to look like a girl to me. He kinda looks like Sakura (from Naruto), well his face.

>> No.59559   [Delete]   [Edit]

I don't watch a whole lot of anime either, honestly. Berserk is one of the only anime/manga I get excited over, and... not so much trap content there. But I also gave Moyashimon a try (just because of Kei) and it was actually pretty damn enjoyable.

>> No.59586   [Delete]   [Edit]

Good luck with that. There's a reason no one's scanlating it. But yeah, it's one of the victims of manga publishers closing down.

>> No.59658   [Delete]   [Edit]

Yes, this is the one that got debunked in a recent /a/ thread. Apparently even Japan was confused when it happened but given we had no translations people overseas were all like "wait, what?"

It also makes more sense. Kei's sister might find it weird that he crossdresser but might think "well, whatever, a job is a job" but having the childhood friend say he's in love with Kei (and on top of that while she is posing as him) must have honestly freaked her out on several levels (that Sawaki is in love with Kei, that Kei kissed Sawaki and the fact that she's passing as him well enough to the point Sawaki might subconsciously be confessing to her from her point of view).

I do hope some other (western) country picks it up. Hopefully one of the easier to understand ones.

>> No.59664   [Delete]   [Edit]

I watched the live action series that came out a year ago or so, and I didn't like it that Kei was played by a female actor. Actually in some scenes when he's not crossdressing he's played by a completely different looking male actor...

That sux. Im pretty sure Kei and his gothic loli outfit is inspired by Mana from Malice Mizer, so I doubt Japan cannot find a male actor who looks good in drag.

>> No.59722   [Delete]   [Edit]

Yeah they could easily have done it properly, for example in Princess Princess live action there were 4 pretty boys who wore dresses and looked ok.

He looks cuter with more subtlety and less war paint. Like an older Norio.

Either that or I'm completely off my rocker.

The heavy makeup is part of the gothic lolita visual and fits him perfectly. Anyway, this isn't the issue here. I like the previous design much more.

Huge budget drop, that's happened. Not bad, but the first season was a masterpiece, this looks average.

Some of these other traps are so tricky, it's hard to guess what they identify as.

You can GUESS what someone identify as?

If you allow me to vent for a minute, I always thought that "trap" was a stupidly offensive and problematic term, more than "passable" for trans. I mean, "trap" is a mere superficial and prejudiced observation of others, has nothing to do with gender identification. Damn, you can hardly distinguish "trap" from "shota".

Sure, a trap character may not necessarily BE trans, but everyone, trans or not, identifies as somewhere on the gender spectrum. And with some of these animu trap characters, it can be difficult to figure out whether male pronouns or female pronouns would be more appropriate, especially with the language barrier. Thus comes the guesswork.

As for traps and shotas being hardly distinguishable...one word: Enzai. Then there's those traps like Ringo Tsukimiya who are too old to be shotas, etc. etc...

Pic related to a trap who's older than a shota.

>> No.62129   [Delete]   [Edit]

Dude, this keeps happening and I'm seriously getting tired of this. Do not refer to "Otoko-no-ko/musume" as "Her" since you know it's a boy, it means "Boy as Girl" and it should be that easy. Remember there are characters like Hideyoshi (Baka to test) and Kazumi (Get backers) that crossdress and do not claim to be females.

>> No.62131   [Delete]   [Edit]

What do you suggest these beautiful, androgynous male characters then? Should we be using politically correct terms like transsexual? That's not going to fly because most anime 'traps' aren't transsexual. We use the word trap because it's a broad term that encompasses all types, including shota.

>Do not refer to "Otoko-no-ko/musume" as "Her" since you know it's a boy

I kind of agree with this. When people use the female pronouns I see them as just being needlessly polite to a fictional character. IMO the only character around here that should rightly be called a 'she' is Poison.

I'm really happy with your understanding! Thanks!

Yeah, I'm just ranting about the unfortunate implications of the term and how most of the works are just mediocre attempts to sell lolicon and shota. Nothing against those, mind.

I don't know, maybe I'm just tired of all this absurd exploitation of moe and mindless pandering? Infuriated with how they treat crossdressing and gender identity lightly? I want a little more, just that. Good romance, drama and comedy, good characters and stories.

Gender doesn't necessarily have something to do with the sex at birth. Many characters considered "traps" are more than just a dude who looks like a lady. That's one of the many problems with the term.

I think we already have enough terms. Beautiful, masculine/feminine, androgynous, crossdresser and others aren't synonymous, after all. Some traps are absurdly young and feminine, others are just beautiful and androgynous, many need crossdressing to "achieve this status". What is a "trap", really? The term is only suitable for a specific type of pornography, I believe. You can't really use it for literature, comics or other forms of work.

These kinds of discussions are fine if we keep them civil. The second it stops being a discussion or even a debate, and becomes a mud-slinging contest, is when I take care of business.

Sorry, got this habit after so much yuri. Ah, wish there was more "boy who identifies himself as a girl with girl" and "girl who identifies herself as a boy with boy". Even "straigh traps" are scarce compared with "absurdly feminine uke with faceless seme".

Anyway, the Mars symbol they will use when reintroducing Yuuki is completely unnecessary. He fooled me completely, only recognized him when he started talking. It was a really pleasant surprise. Huh, I thought this was the very point of being a "trap".

Here, the opening.

I'll withdraw my previous criticism, it looks good. They are simply trying to approach the art style currently used in the manga.

Really? There's almost no discussion around here.

I got into Steins;Gate recently, but was pretty disappointed with how they treated Ruka. She is naturally indistinguishable from a girl and the show reveals all the cards right away, which is very boring. Okabe, the main character, only considers her worthy of his romantic interest when... Sorry, that would be spoilers, but it's really disappointing. No, it's offensive, especially because on their first meeting Okabe says that her sex doesn't matter. Liar! To think that I liked him... Urgh! In summary, Ruka is treated like another stupid eye candy.
