ITT Sudden realizations that blew your mind.

Patchouli is anemic and she lives with two vampires. There's a good chance that her anemia is caused by either Flandre or Remilia sucking her blood.

Oh, good. I thought I was the only one who thought that. Being Remi's best friend, I'd wager she'd be willing to give her starving friend a nibble or two.

I'd figure it would look something like that scene from Kodomo no Jikan where Rin is begging to suck on her friend's tits.

Well there was that bit about how Kogasa's heterochromia was actually an attempt to give Kogasa the feeling of a one eyed being.
It's a really good character design. Kogasa's over all color is blue; blue hair, blue dress, and one blue left eye. However in contrast to all this is one bright red eye. Essentially, she's a big blue thing with one red point, which gives the effect of having one eye.

It took a me a basic graphic design class and two drawing classes to figure that one out.

Props to ZUN for coming up something like that. And here we thought he was just watching some Rozen Maiden.

The Moon is an allegory for America!

The first Lunarians were sages who decided to the moon from Earth. Upon confronting the natives (the moon rabbits) they subjugated them and reduced them to second class citizens.

The Lunarians view those from Earth as "unclean" and lesser than themselves despite the fact their heritage is in fact of the Earth.

Replace Lunarians with "Americans", moon rabbits with "American Indians", Earth with "Europe", and unclean with "Communists" and you have American history class.

Flandre has a spellcard where she makes 3 copies of herself.

She spends her time in the basement of the Scarlet Devil Mansion by herself. She obviously gets lonely and has no one to play with.

The reason she learned to make copies of herself is because she gets lonely and want people to play with. Must be crazy, everytime she wants to play it's like nuclear war.

I think Reimu can die too(if you disreguard plot armor). I mean, you don't exactly see too many Hakureis running about, do you?

Technically a lot of them can die if you stab them the right way, remember spellcard duels a formal battles done in lieu of stabbing each other in their sleep.

The fact that she's still alive may concern to the fact that if she dies, Gensokyo goes kerblooey.

She was still able to beat up people before the spell card rules (EoSD) were put in place by her.

In another note, I always found the ''PLOT ARMOR, MIKO PLAYIN DIRTY'' argument to be retarded, that's like asking why Mario never loses to Bowser, and even so Reimu's still beaten canonically in the fighting games.

Meh, those are assumptions for now, although there does seem to be some kind of relation.

Also, any character on Gensokyo can die (except Ghosts), ZUN has said that while a youkai will reassemble if they lose a limb, they can die if hit with enough spiritual power (i.e: what Reimu from Touhou 1-5 and previous Hakurei Miko used to do).

Just that everyone's chillin' and they fight with danmaku now. ZUN also said that in all of the battles in the games, both fighters are playing relaxed, despite the nature of the convo they had/the nature of the battle itself.

With each game, Reimu gets a bit more impatient as she isn't payed for her duties (except in TH12 where the canon ending is chunks of each player's thrown together) and she's quite frivolous in avoiding unneccesary fights and getting the job done ASAP. Whereas when she's not fighting or in ''Incident Mode'', she's quite relaxed and caring of others, such state is only accessible when she's in peace, preferably in her shrine or at a party, this is seen in her endings where she has tea with that game's final boss + its subordinates, not to mention the official mangas (despite how painful SSiB was). She doesn't like the fact that she has to clean everything up if the party is at her shrine though.

If you look at it from one of those symbolism views, she could be a parody of any action series where the usual heroic, manly hero/magical girl who fights to defend X kingdom in the name of honor, Reimu instead tries to skip the battle-ful dialogue of those who won't go away after being asked to and gohei the final boss in her respective buttocks so she can go home and sip tea as quick as she can.

I lieu of all this discussion I feel I should rephrase what i said about Marisa being the only one who can die.

What I meant was she was the only one who can die easily. Being that she's among the only straight up humans shown in the series if you buy into the theory that Sakuya is a Lunarian, also her time dickery. Also for the purposes of what I mean I'm disregarding Reimu since she won't die because nobody in their right mind would kill her.

Basically if someone wanted to, they could probably kill Marisa with little repercussion except possibly that of Marisa's friends.

>> No.8187   [Delete]   [Edit]

>>8186
You mean in fanon? Sometimes people take crap they see from fanon as canon (not saying you are).

Cause if we go by current canon standards then every human, and apparently Kasen, could be killed ''easily'' (as in vulnerable human-body death, like an accident or hit by a sharp/large object), despite Sanae's half-god-hood.

Edit: Oh and, according to Marisa's status, she'll soon learn either how to make an immortality potion or naturally become immortal should she get a rank higher in her Magician rank. ZUN said this about the Magician status but didn't quite mention Marisa has yet gotten to that stage.

immortality? really, I thought touhou characters can only gain immortality through the hourai elixer. What magicians have is eternal youth, they can still die.

I'm gonna have to agree with this. A human magician can become a youkai through hard work like Alice did. Or you have natural magicians like Patchouli. As you should know, youkai look young and have absurdly long lifespans but can still be killed.

How Reimu flies is through weightlessness; she makes herself lighter than air and floats.

One of the powers of the Hakurei Orbs is the described as being able to eat as many sweets as you want and not get fat or rather, not gain weight.

Reimu's ability to fly comes from the Hakurei orbs, she uses the powers within them to make herself lighter than air and thus float.

>> No.9529   [Delete]   [Edit]

Good theory... But no. If you were lighter than air and thus float, you would not float in the air, you would float above it.

>> No.9530   [Delete]   [Edit]

The weightlessness thing comes from her profile from Imperishable Night, so there's no disputing that.

I guess Reimu doesn't make herself completely lighter than air but rather just light enough to maintain some sort buoyancy at her desired altitude. Point is, her power to fly comes from her balls.

????? - Humans gain a spirit, and thus, an imagination. The randomness of the universe skyrockets, as well as the possible universes that exist.

???? - The plane known as Makai is born out of this blob of soul energy. An entity starts taking care of it, aping the spirits that created her, and chooses the form of a human woman because she is the first lifeform there, and logically, must be a maternal figure.

??? - The girl from Makai takes good care of herself, and makes a trip to our world sometimes to learn more. Most people are afraid of her. She manages to meet a few people, including a man fasting in the desert. She asks him some philosophical questions (i.e., why he is fasting, why he won't let her help him, etc.), and learns a lot about humans, philosophy, and the concept of faith. She wants to learn more from him, but he convinces her she can only hurt this world with her power.

??? - Realizing she can never truly be of help to the humans that made her without permanently hurting them, she secludes herself back to Makai, where random spirits have taken up residence. Before she left, she allowed a homeless Romanian girl to stow away with her through the dimensional jump. The jump wracks the girl's body and soul, and "Shinki" (A name the girl had given to a oriental geisha doll lost in the jump, the girl had mispronounced something she heard an oriental trader say [She wanted it to be named "Belief", hence "Shinji"]) is forced to put her in stasis so she doesn't die.

1??? - Usami Renko Enrolls in College. Maribel Hearn Enrolls in college. Renko is a Science major. Maribel is an Arts major. Both are in the same dormitory hall. It is not remembered if they were roomates.

???- Usami Renko attempts suicide for unknown reasons. Maribel Hearn learns of Renko's attempt. Attempts to calm Renko down by showing her pictures that she drew that calmed her, of priestesses tending to shrines, of people taking care of the Earth and Heaven and Hell and the Moon and all the places in between. A place where legends lived and harmony ruled.

Renko appreciates the gesture and they form a kind of 2-person "club", whose goal is to find old and abandoned property and explore it. Renko finds the club therapeutic, and finds she has a goal in life. Maribel finds it inspirational, and paints more pictures.

1??? - The creatures of Makai venture outward, taking pieces of Makai (which were constantly "thought" into existence and were taking up space) with them and making bridges outward. The huge number of spirits doing this form a large landmass. Shinki grows incredibly powerful, as she is effectively the potential power behind every lost or abandoned idea in history.

19?? - Maribel and Renko experiment with hallucinogenic drugs and the idea of Lucid Dreaming.

They stop taking the hallucinogens; Maribel saw a gaping hole in reality with bug-eyes crawling out of it, and Renko kept seeing black-and-white oscillating patterns.

After this event, they realize they are completely lost in the woods, and have no markers with which to follow back. However, Renko finds their way home perfectly.

A strange, bookish girl in engineering inquires into their club. She is a temporary member, and imagines that they are in mythical battles wherever they go, and is quite noisy.

All three experiment with lucid dreaming when they find a suitable property, and Maribel attempts some rituals to encourage dream-sharing and out-of-body experiences.

They find they cannot recall their experiences, but Renko usually feels exhausted, and Maribel feels incredibly confident after a session. The third member never commented on her sessions.

199?: A small child freezes to death instantaneously in a cryogenics lab on campus after a tragedy involving an improperly sealed liquid helium drum. Her identity is unknown.

A girl in the Zoology department commits suicide by seppuku under a wilting tree. No note is left.

A crow flies into the window of the lab Renko works in, and plummets to earth, dead.

The third member accidentally runs over a frog with a lawnmower.

All three girls of the "Dream scavenging" club decide that these deaths were unfair, and that, in case there's no heaven, they should consign dead people to a fantasy realm where they can live the rest of their lives in peace. Maribel paints a picture and scrawls some of her blood and hair into it. She then burns it, consigning it to an idea rather than a picture.

The third member leaves the club, but promises to stay in touch with the others "one way or another", in her words.

1998 - Shinki notices a major spike in spirit migration. There is even plant life. She notices 3 "Big Spirits" that occasionally are not in the realm, jump dimensions easily, and are on-par with her power. Realizing how powerful the life on her realm is getting, she communes with these spirits about making a system of resolving disputes that is based on skill rather than force.

She opens Makai for general travel, encouraging these three entities to travel there.

Maribel is a student at Miskatonic University. While studying abroad in Kyoto, she meets a student named Renko who shares her interest in the supernatural. The two of them dream-quest together through shades of mystical realms. They desperately search for a way to cross over fully, eventually discovering that doing so would require a human sacrifice. This upsets them enough that they stop their dreaming and drift apart.

Months later, Renko invites Maribel to her house, saying that she's found a new way to make the jump. Maribel notices that her friend is acting odd right away, but still follows her into the cellar, where she has drawn complex sigils on the floor. Renko pulls a knife and tries to wrestle Maribel to the floor.

They grapple, rolling across the floor into the piles of junk scattered around the cellar. Maribel manages to grab an old parasol, using it to fend off Renko's attacks. Renko makes a desperate lunge and stumbles; as the two of them fall to the floor, the end of the parasol punctures Renko's neck.

As Renko bleeds out onto the floor and Maribel hugs the parasol in shock, the sigils begin to glow and the room begins to shake. A fissure develops in the air in front of Maribel, opening up to reveal thousands of disembodied eyes staring back at her. She tries to run for the door, but it is too late.
